  • Cancellation Insurance

Why subscribe to cancellation and interruption insurance?

The contract provides you with insurance coverage in the event of unforeseen circumstances before your departure (cancellation) as well as during your trip (interruption). The coverage includes the reimbursement of cancellation or travel modification expenses, within the limits of the amounts charged by the travel organizer or rental agency (provided that the rental is entirely canceled).

When should you subscribe to cancellation insurance?

You can subscribe to the Cancellation Insurance contract if:
    - The booking of your trip was made within the last 48 hours.
    - You are leaving in 10 days or more.
    - You have purchased your services from a tourism professional (travel agencies, airlines, etc.).

What amount should be declared when subscribing to cancellation insurance?

For each insured person, you must enter the amount to be insured. This amount should include all services purchased as part of your trip (e.g., airplane tickets, hotel, prepaid activities, etc.).

When does my cancellation insurance take effect ?

Your cancellation insurance takes effect from the date of subscription to your contract. You will be covered for the cancellation of your stay from the subscription date until your departure date.

What is the deadline for declaring the cancellation of my trip?

You must submit your refund request within 5 working days following the awareness of the reason leading to the cancellation of your stay.

How do I get a refund for cancellation-related expenses?
      - I cancel my plane tickets and hotel reservations with various service providers.
      - I submit my refund request from my personal account.
      - I attach supporting documents attesting to the cancellation of my trip.

What documents should be submitted in case of cancellation?

In case of cancellation, documents will be required to justify the covered risk (non-exhaustive list as an example):

    - In the case of a medical event, a medical certificate attesting to your situation or that of a family member will serve as sufficient evidence for the cancellation of the stay.
    - In the case of the theft of your identity papers, a complaint filed with a competent police station will be recognized as supporting evidence.
    - In the case of a professional event, a professional email attesting to your inability to make this trip will constitute an accepted justification.
    - In the case of a summons to court, the official summons letter will justify your inability to travel on the scheduled dates.

What are the main coverage limits of cancellation/interruption insurance?

  • Subscribe to travel insurance

Why it is advised to buy travel insurance?

During a trip, problems can arise.

Travel insurance allows you to receive compensation for damages you may have suffered or caused during a stay abroad.

Here are the main guarantees of our assistance insurance contracts:

     - Coverage of medical expenses, including Covid-19,
     - Medical assistance and repatriation,
     - Luggage insurance,
     - Early return,
     - Private liability insurance,
     - Personal accident insurance,
     - Legal assistance.

AVI International offers different travel insurance contracts tailored to your needs based on your trips: short vacations, long journeys and world tours, studies and internships abroad, Working Holiday program, expatriation, etc.

    Note:

    1. French embassies or consulates in your country of stay are there to help you.
In case of loss or theft of your documents, they will provide administrative assistance.

    2. Social security will cover your medical expenses on-site.
This may be the case in Europe with the European Health Insurance Card, but not if you are outside the European Union or the European Economic Area. Note that coverage in Europe may be partial.

    3. Credit cards do not always cover everything.
It depends on the type of card you have and the type of trips you are taking. Make sure to check the beneficiaries specified in the contract. If you incur medical expenses before notifying the assistance service, you will not be compensated.

    - Details of insurance and repatriation assistance guarantees,
    - Exclusions from coverage,
    - Services offered (24-hour assistance, coverage, payment guarantee, medical advice via chat, multilingual service, network of doctors, claims processing procedure and timeframe, etc.).

    European Health Insurance Card

How to obtain the European Health Insurance Card before your departure?

You can obtain your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from your social security office. It allows you to prove your entitlement to health insurance and receive coverage for medical expenses in European Union and European Economic Area countries (EU/EEA), according to the laws and procedures in force in your country of stay. This way, you can receive the necessary medical care within the local public health system.

If medical services are free for residents of the country, they will be free for you as well, and you won't have to advance any money. You may, however, need to pay the co-payment (the part of medical expenses remaining at your expense).

If medical services are chargeable, you will need to pay the medical expenses on-site and request reimbursement from your health insurance office upon your return. The reimbursement will be made in accordance with the social security rates in force in your country of habitual residence.

Note that the EHIC does not replace the coverage of comprehensive travel insurance, which includes guarantees and assistance services (medical repatriation, early emergency return, visit by a relative in case of hospitalization, Luggage insurance in case of theft), or access to private healthcare.

What to do in case of emergency?

Depending on the circumstances, the medical advisor of your social security medical service will decide whether or not to reimburse your medical expenses. Any reimbursement of your medical expenses can occur upon your request, but only according to the social security rates of your country of habitual residence in effect on the date of the care.
Note: Such reimbursement is a possibility, not an obligation, as indicated by the French social security on its Ameli website.

Social security in no way replaces comprehensive travel insurance. Therefore, it is highly recommended to subscribe to an insurance contract that ensures coverage for medical expenses incurred, medical repatriation in case of illness or accident abroad, and early return in case of emergency.

    Credit Card Insurance

Can you rely solely on your credit card insurance?

    1. Insurance and repatriation assistance guarantees
Insurance and repatriation assistance guarantees of credit cards vary depending on the type of card and the bank.
Insured persons are precisely defined, coverage limits may be insufficient, deductibles are often applied, and many activities and sports are excluded.
We recommend checking the general insurance conditions of your credit card before traveling.

    2. Coverage duration:
Most credit cards offer travel insurance for the first 90 days of the trip. Beyond that, you are no longer covered.

    3. Procedures to follow:
If you incur any expenses without notifying the assistance service, you will not be compensated.

Geographical coverage zone: Where am I covered by my travel insurance?

You are covered based on the country or geographical area chosen when subscribing to your travel insurance.

If you have subscribed to an Au Pair insurance contract?

You benefit from an additional extension:
    - An extension during holidays in your country of habitual residence.

The same applies if the extension of your contract is made late, i.e., more than 48 hours after the expiration of your initial travel insurance contract.

Hospitalization expenses in case of accidents would remain covered.

    Country of Residence

Your country of habitual residence is that of your permanent domicile.

It is the country to which you would be repatriated in case of serious medical problems or early return.
It is located in one of the following countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden.

    Excluded Countries

Generally excluded from assistance coverage are countries experiencing civil or foreign wars, notable political instability, or undergoing popular movements, riots, acts of terrorism, retaliations, restrictions on the free movement of persons and goods (for any reason, including health, security, weather-related, etc.), or nuclear core disintegration or any irradiation from a source of energy exhibiting radioactive characteristics.

The insurer cannot be held responsible for failures or delays in the provision of services resulting from force majeure events or events such as: civil or foreign wars, notable political instability, popular movements, riots, acts of terrorism, retaliations.

    Manual or Physical Activities

Whether paid or unpaid, these are activities carried out during an internship in a company or laboratory.
Injuries to the insured resulting from accidents during these activities are covered with the Sports and Leisure + option as a subsidiary and complementary measure when the host company or internship supervisor has no or insufficient insurance, including a deductible.

    High-Risk Sports

Only sports listed in the annexes of the general insurance conditions are covered with Marco Polo and Routard Option Sport insurances.
Excluded are damages resulting from hunting and damages resulting from participation in official competitions and their preparatory events, as well as attempts to break records.
In the event of an insured's accident during the practice of a sport in a club, the insurer intervenes as a secondary line after the exhaustion of the insurance coverage of the insured's sports club.

    Create a secure password

How to ensure your password is secure?

Using a reliable and secure password for your AVI account reduces the risk of unauthorized access by a third party.

Your password should be easy to remember but complex enough not to be guessed.

Use at least 8 characters and avoid common combinations

Make sure to create a password consisting of at least 8 characters and a combination of letters, numbers, and some symbols (#, $, ! for example).
To enhance the security of your password, choose a unique phrase containing several words and symbols.
The longer your password, the harder it is to guess.
Avoid common words and don't use a combination of a word and numbers. This combination is used too frequently to be secure.

    Use a password manager

Password management tools are helpful for storing and organizing your passwords.

It's a simple and effective way to get a unique and secure password for all your online accounts.
